Since Brexit the UK is a separate Amazon marketplace with its own fee schedule in pounds and its own VAT rules. This page estimates profit per unit on the UK bands, so a product can be compared on both sides of the Channel without converting a euro figure and hoping it still holds.

VAT is 20% for most goods. Consignments under £135 have VAT collected by the marketplace at the point of sale instead of at the border.

A separate marketplace since Brexit

The UK left the EU customs union and VAT area, and Amazon treats it as its own marketplace: fees in pounds, UK VAT at 20%, and a fulfilment network that does not share stock with the European sites. Sellers on both sides of the Channel need two calculations, not one with a currency conversion bolted on.

A UK price is therefore not the euro price with a symbol swapped. The fulfilment bands differ in absolute terms, referral percentages apply to a pound price, and the VAT treatment has its own threshold. Run this page for the UK and the Europe page for the eurozone, then compare margins rather than prices.

Fulfilment bands in grams

Amazon UK quotes fulfilment by weight band in grams, and the bands are narrow at the light end: the difference between a 100-gram and a 250-gram parcel is a full band, which is why packaging choices matter more than they look.

Above 15 kilograms the estimate continues at a per-100-gram rate. That is a planning figure only: heavy or bulky UK stock is better priced from a quote, because oversize handling and large-item surcharges are not captured by a simple weight band.

Referral fees and the grocery band

Most categories pay 15% of the sale price. Consumer electronics and grocery sit at 8%, apparel at 17% and jewellery at 20%. Grocery is the interesting one on the UK site: an 8% referral fee makes low-ticket repeat purchases viable in a way a 15% category is not, though the same items usually carry higher damage and return rates.

Jewellery is the mirror image: 20% referral fee, presentation packaging that pushes the weight band up, and return rates that are often in double digits. A thin margin there is the fee schedule telling you something true.

The £135 threshold and import VAT

For consignments valued under £135, UK VAT is usually collected by the marketplace at the point of sale rather than at the border. Above that, the importer pays VAT and any applicable duty — the scenario that produces an unexpected bill for a customer who thought the price was final.

Duty depends on the commodity code and the origin of the goods, not on the price alone, and it is not part of this estimate. If you ship from outside the UK, work out the landed cost first and then use this page for the Amazon fees.

Storage and the peak quarter

Monthly storage is a reference rate in the table above rather than a calculated line: it depends on cubic volume and on how long the unit sits in the warehouse. Storage rises sharply from October to December, so a product that is comfortable in July can be expensive in November if it does not sell through.

The calculator asks for storage per unit per month. If your average cover is three months, multiply the reference rate by three; if you are unsure, divide your own historical storage bill by units sold — that number is more honest than any published rate.

Where the estimate drifts

Four things pull a UK FBA calculation away from the estimate: the exchange rate if you buy in another currency, the return rate, the advertising percentage, and any fee change Amazon publishes mid-year. The break-even line is the one to watch, because it moves less than the margin when fees change.

The fee table here is versioned in the note below the result so you can see which schedule the numbers came from. When Amazon updates a rate, the version changes with it; a saved price should be re-run rather than assumed.

Questions

Is the UK fee schedule the same as the EU one?

No. Since Brexit the UK is a separate marketplace with its own fee schedule in pounds, and a unit stored and sold in the UK is not charged EU fees. If you sell in both, run both calculators: the same product can have a different fulfilment fee on each side of the Channel.

Do I still charge VAT on UK sales?

UK VAT is 20% for most goods. For consignments under £135 the marketplace usually collects it from the buyer at checkout rather than at the border, which is why the threshold matters for pricing. Amazon fees are quoted net, so VAT is not part of this estimate.
