Amazon Australia prices fulfilment per kilogram rather than per ounce, and the shape of the fee curve differs from the US one. This page estimates profit per unit in AUD on the Australian bands, so a local price can be judged on local costs rather than on a converted US figure.

Fee table — 2026-10 (estimate)

Referral fees are a percentage of the sale price in AUD. The calculator applies the same numbers as this table, so any result can be recomputed by hand.

GST is 10%. Imported goods above A$1,000 attract GST and any applicable duty at the border; below that, GST is collected at the point of sale.

A smaller market, priced in kilograms

Amazon Australia prices fulfilment per kilogram, and the bands are wider: half a kilogram, one kilogram, one and a half, two, three, five, ten and twenty. A seller used to US ounces should not convert and hope — the curve has a different shape, and fulfilment is a larger share of the sale price here than in the US.

Distance is the reason. Stock sits in Australian fulfilment centres and travels across a continent-sized country, so a fee that looks high next to a US schedule is not a rounding error: it is the cost of the delivery network the customer expects.

Half-kilo steps

The first band ends at half a kilogram, where most small accessories land; the second ends at one kilogram. A 1.2-kilogram parcel falls in the 1.5-kilogram band, and packaging is often what pushes it over. Weigh a packed unit, not the product.

Above twenty kilograms the estimate adds a per-500-gram continuation, and the oversize multiplier on this page is slightly lower than the US one because bulky handling is priced differently here. Treat anything in that range as a planning figure and confirm it in Seller Central.

Referral fees and GST

Most categories pay 15% of the sale price; consumer electronics sit at 8%, apparel at 17% and jewellery at 20%. GST is 10% and sits on top of the price — it is not an Amazon fee and it is not part of this estimate.

GST registration in Australia starts at A$75,000 of turnover, but the marketplace collects GST on low-value imported goods regardless of your registration. If you are registered, the GST you collect is not margin, and the GST on your fees may be claimable — ask an accountant once, then treat the numbers here as pre-tax.

The A$1,000 border rule

Imported goods valued above A$1,000 attract GST and any applicable duty when they enter Australia; below that threshold, GST on low-value imported goods is collected at the point of sale. That is why the landed cost of a first shipment can differ from the landed cost of the tenth.

Duty depends on the commodity code and origin, and sea freight lead times matter more than the duty rate for cash flow: stock that arrives late still costs storage from the day it lands. The calculator does not model lead time, so keep a buffer in the storage line.

Storage, distance and returns

Monthly storage is a reference rate in the table above: it scales with volume and with time in the warehouse, and it rises in the peak quarter. Australian storage rates are higher in absolute terms than US ones, which is expected given the cost of warehouse space near the cities where customers live.

Returns cost more here because the return trip is longer and slower. The calculator takes returns as a percentage of the sale price, so if your category returns 8% of units rather than 3%, raise the allowance and watch the break-even price move — it is the most sensitive line to that change.

Reading the result in Australian dollars

Margin and ROI here are calculated in AUD, from AUD inputs, and the break-even price is the AUD price at which profit is zero. Do not compare the result to a US calculation without converting: the fee structure, the weight bands and the currency are all different, which is the point of a regional calculator.

The number to carry into a pricing decision is the margin at your planned price, then the break-even price as the floor. If the floor sits above what the market will pay, the product is not a candidate for FBA in Australia at that size and weight — that is not the calculator being wrong.

Questions

Are these figures in Australian dollars?

Yes. Every number on this page is AUD: referral fees are a percentage of the AUD sale price, and fulfilment bands are per kilogram, which is how Amazon Australia prices fulfilment. Comparing them directly to the US schedule understates what fulfilment costs locally.

Does the estimate include GST?

No. GST is 10% and sits on top of the sale price; it is not an Amazon fee. Treat the figures here as the fee estimate before tax, and confirm how your own GST registration treats both the sale and the fees.
