A VAT invoice is an invoice with extra obligations: your VAT number, the client’s, the rate applied, and — for cross-border business — the reverse charge wording.

The checklist varies by country but the shape is stable: identify both businesses, show the net amount, show the VAT rate and amount, and show the gross total. For cross-border B2B services inside the EU, reverse charge wording replaces the VAT amount.
What to put on a vat invoice
- Your VAT registration number
- The client’s VAT number for cross-border B2B work
- Net amount, VAT rate and VAT amount, shown separately
- Reverse charge note when the client accounts for the VAT

Frequently asked
- What is different about a VAT invoice?
- A VAT invoice adds the tax registration numbers of both parties and separates net, tax rate, tax amount and gross total. For cross-border B2B services inside the EU the supplier usually adds a reverse-charge note instead of charging VAT — check the rule for the countries involved.
- Is this invoice template free to use?
- Yes. Open the template, adjust the lines, download the PDF. There is no account, no email gate and no per-invoice charge.
- Will my client see that I used a template?
- They will see a clean, standard invoice layout with your details, your lines and your totals. The only footer line mentions where the PDF was generated, below the invoice content.
